Brown was a part of the group Symbol 8 in the ’70s, and 80’s as a percussionist and lead vocalist. His love and appreciation are for various classic bands, such as Quincy Jones and George Duke. Some of the groups Brown has been on shows with are George Benson, George Duke, Con Funk Shun, BB King, Lou Rawls, Peabo Bryson, and many other professional groups.
Since his first solo release of New World Jazz Electric Slide, Harlem Nights came out in 2020, Misled and Running on Top of the World in 2021, and his newest production, I Remember Calvary, 2022.
Brown's goal is to be considered one of the contemporary modern jazz's creators, trailblazers, and sound trendsetters. His overall desire is to become more significant than he has been before.
Enjoy his other CD projects such as "Misled," "New World Jazz Electric Slide," "New World Jam," Running on Top of The World, and "Harlem Nights." These titles represent years of on and off-the-road travel with bands and groups, acknowledging change worldwide regarding jazz and gospel music.
What makes the “New World Jazz Electric Slide” so special is that this project offers by Brown’s record label – JL Brown Muzic Co. Early in his career, the versatile percussionist and vocalist were often “lively, exciting, and inspirational.” By the end of 2019, J L Brown’s New World Jazz Electric Slide recording came into manifestation.
The New World Jazz Electric Slide is a project that reflects a few of Brown’s favorite jazz vibes that he has composed over the years as a young man while playing with groups in high school! All the songs are action-packed and emotion-driven with new and unique arrangements, spear-headed by Brown. Credit and honor for the recording of New World Jazz Electric Slide and Harlem Nights go to Nynth Wonder Studios and its founder Dan Arias for the engineering of this project.
Brown also has a great love for Gospel Music, where he was the lead vocalist of the contemporary gospel group Son-day, under the leadership of Dennis Garner. There, he helped build on his creation of music and jazz, a world in which Brown states is a place in and of itself.
JL Brown has a newly released gospel title"d "I Remember Calvary." This newest project, "I Remember Calvary," will prove to be one of Brown's finest gospel creations. Credit for mixing and master mixing of Misled, Running on top of the World, and I Remember Calvary goes to Icon Recording LLC, Mr. Jarad Mills.
Brown and his wife took a leap of faith when moving to Florida. He was born and raised in Reidsville, North Carolina. In 2018 he soared into a new phase of his life, and after many years of being off the road from his music career, he began to release that within himself; music projects he had never heard.
Inspired by the Lord, he knew it was time to “forward the way,” step out on faith and create a company that could not only release his music but also serves as a legacy for his family. Choosing the name JL Brown Music Co is insightful of his great confidence in embarking on a journey of purpose and destiny that individually defines who he is.
“I Remember Calvary and New World Jazz Electric Slide,” and all projects to follow will place a stamp on the Brown name as one to deliver nothing but the best.
“I want people to know where I came from and the journey I am on right now,” states JL Brown. Lastly, Brown wants to let listeners that are currently in his life hear the real inner peace and know that he is in a perfect place. He says, “I’m forever thankful.”
